about me

background

Creating. Doing something new from scratch. Thinking of how it could be, and giving it a shape. Facing all the obstacles that arise along the process, and overcoming them. Taking a look at the output while the mind slides into the next project…

This could describe, in a nutshell, my leitmotif, not only regarding the field of advertising, but also in general terms.

They say a copywriter is not able to design a decent page or an art director does not have the skills necessary to write a fairly coherent text; or, also, a developer could not design the graphics of that web page which code they are writing.

Platitudes, as widespread as erroneous.

I know many copywriters with good graphic criteria, and not a few art directors who are able to write not only intelligible, but even brilliant writing. Or they would, if they made the effort. And I’m sure there are many experts in HTML code who can design websites which look more than correct.

For my part, I have always refused to accept such arbitrary classifications. It may be true that some people—regardless of the professional field they work in—do not have certain skills. But I think the fact that we get pushed, to some extent, to specialize, should not keep us from doing other things we like; and even to stand out in facets different than those which we usually carry out on a daily basis.

More than a theoretical approach is an attitude—not sure if innate, but ingrained on me— which I have always faced the diversity of situations that arise every day with.

I could have devoted to music, or maybe to writing…, I do not know if novel or essay, or simply texts about things that I am interested in-those which I have learned something about, over time—.

The truth is that circumstances—so often, by pure chance—lead us to perform a specific function, to the point of pigeonhole us, although our ability, and even our skills, would allow us to cover many other areas of knowledge .

I would prefer to continue learning rather than staying locked into a given position, even though it might seem comfortable.

I’m attracted to challenges, no doubt. I think the chance of succeeding in a particular endeavor is directly proportional to the time —and the energy—that is allotted.

When, several years ago, I started poking around in the field of the programming languages which are commonly used in the development of websites, such as HTML or CSS—which I was completely illiterate about—soon I got caught in the maelstrom of those seemingly indecipherable signs. This must be the lure of the unknown, that quality so human…

Today, I am able to understand most of those cryptic signs that web pages are made of; which, combined with my skills in the graphic and linguistic grounds, makes a “unipersonal agency” of me, or, as I have been calling it across this web site, a multi creative.

careercheck my résumé

I started as a trainee designer in the studio of Oscar Mariné (OMB, Madrid, Spain). During the time I worked there I learned the basics of “well done” graphic design, and I had the opportunity to collaborate in the development of a number of high quality pieces, both regarding their creative side, and their execution.

Later, the opportunity arose to delve into the world of advertising; specifically, direct marketing, in one of the most awarded and internationally recognized agencies: CP Comunicación (later known as Proximity, BBDO Group, Madrid, Spain).

CP Comunicación brought me many opportunities, including developing top work within the Direct and Relational Marketing field, which had hitherto been unexplored terrain for me. As a result of that experience and the extensive work in collaboration with the team, with whom I shared many hours at the agency, I got several domestic and international awards, both in Europe and the United States, such as the John Caples Awards and the Echo Awards.

But perhaps the experience that has left the deepest mark on me, not only from the professional point of view but also in a vital sense, is the time I spent in Houston, Texas, USA.

During those years I had the opportunity to experience another culture, different customs,… and also a new market and a new professional environment. That was really exciting.

I worked in Agua Marketing, a small—in size, not in capability—agency, primarily oriented to the Hispanic Market, in which I began to venture into areas that were growing at breakneck speed: online marketing, social media,…

Each and every one of my various career stages I have been learning something from. That has been and remains my priority.

Goals

Goals

(Besides keeping up with learning)

My goals for the short and medium term are varied and cover different areas:

Of course, the primary objective is to continue doing work that exceeds my clients’ expectations.

I want to expand my knowledge and skills in the field of online marketing, website development,… With occasional forays into the area of social media.

Certainly, I am open to new international experiences—in the United States or other countries—that may arise and provide me with new challenges. You learn more when you dive into the unexplored.

I am interested in collaborating with other professionals whose interests are similar to mine; perhaps a complementary area. Teamwork often produce great results.

Another objective of mine is to establish a few more strong and lasting relationships with companies that need to communicate the characteristics of their products and brands. I think that the closer, and the more lasting a collaboration is, the more fruitful the results are. It is not just “getting clients”; it is reaching synergies.

Building more and better websites—most likely with WordPress and Headway, although Joomla is also in my list of territories to explore…

An immediate goal: I would like you to get in touch with me after you have visited this website.

And, why not? Enjoying some exciting basketball game every now and then.

(I have many other goals, but they would not fit on this page).
